ABOUT ME

I currently reside in Bandon, Co. Cork. I was born in Cork in 1996.

I graduated with a BSc (Hons.) in Field Biology with Wildlife Tour Leading from Tralee Institute of Technology in 2019.
Studying for this degree was a labour of love for me, because for as long as I can remember I have always had a strong interest in wildlife. This interest grew even further after a visit to the Natural History Museum in London when I was 7 years old; I was particularly fascinated by the exhibition on whales and dolphins. Since then, I have gone on many whale watching trips in West Cork and have been lucky enough to have some very memorable and exciting encounters.
It was during these trips that I gradually obtained an interest in photography, as I love to capture those elusive moments to show people what we have on our doorstep. In time, I have also been able to photograph a variety of other wildlife in Ireland such as red deer in Killarney National Park and otters in Cork City.

I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to observe, study and photograph wildlife in locations as diverse as the Azores and central Italy.

For my photography, I use Pentax DSLRs with a variety of lenses, mostly telephotos of 400mm and 150-500mm focal length. I tend to shoot on aperture priority and often set the camera to manual focus. Tripods are useful in low light conditions but can be impractical to carry around in rough terrain! A good camera bag that can hold all your equipment is essential. I have never had any formal training in photography, but my Dad and Uncle Paul taught me a lot.

I hope you enjoy my photographs and that they encourage you to get out there and look at the wonders of nature all around us.
